Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a condition that affects the digestive system and can result in a number of different symptoms including stomach cramps, constipation, bloating, etc. It can be linked to diet and even a previous food-related illness. It is uncomfortable, can be painful, debilitating and sometimes embarrassing.
Although regarded as being only recently recognised as a treatable condition there are many reasons why IBS occurs. In some cases it can be directly diet related and is often also caused by high levels of stress. As such there are often many underlying reasons for IBS to occur and many begin in the mind of the sufferer.
Treatment for IBS with various forms of psychological therapy has proven to be successful. Using Hypnosis, as one example, can help the sufferer to remove some of the causes that manifest as IBS. It is often linked with diet and this also can be addressed with therapy. In some cases GPs will recommend those with IBS seek psychotherapy, including Hypnosis.
If you believe you are suffering from IBS but have not been diagnosed, I recommend, in the first instance that you seek medical advice from your GP first.
